1649 - Oliver Cromwell landed at Dublin, Ireland. His troops killed 2,000 men, and deported many others as slaves to Barbados and other Caribbean Islands. The population of Ireland was reduced by 2/3. Large amounts of land in Munster, Leinster, and Ulster were confiscated and divided among English soldiers. Scottish Protestants were encouraged to migrate from England to Ireland, to end Catholic rebellion there. These became the "Scots-Irish"
