Notes for James Harvey LITTON, SR.

Info taken from James Harvey Litton Sr. family bible owned by Canie Burns Litton Jr. of Jacksonville, FL. Canie says all his family bible collection is on file with the State Library of Virginia.

Info from family bible has been "clarified" by Clarence E. Shepard and Canie. The family bible entries were all made in the same handwriting, probably years after the actual events recorded (the bible was published in 1835).

Merchant, tanner, shoemaker. Canie says James lived at Litton Hill with first wife, where he operated a livery stable, tanning, and shoemaker shop. By 1834, James moved his business to Lebanon, on the main street, to a lot purchased by brother John. He lived in a house behind the business. He finally purchased land in "The Corner," near his parents' farm, and conducted a farm implement supply company. He continued his shop in Lebanon until after the death of his second wife. He then moved to Pikeville, KY, and continued a shoemaking business there until his death.
